Children's privacy notice
Last updated October 15, 2026. Hero Sprouts Learn is a Capeling Press product. Plain-language summaries sit above each section; the section text is what applies.
Short version: children never create accounts or type anything about themselves. A parent owns the account. We collect a picked nickname, an avatar, a grade and mission results, and nothing else about the child. No ads, no chat, no third-party trackers on the child's screens.
1. Who this is for
Hero Sprouts Learn is a practice site for children in grades 1 to 4, used under the supervision of a parent or guardian. This notice explains, in line with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar laws elsewhere, what information relates to a child and how it is handled.
2. What we collect about a child
- A nickname chosen in the app (we ask for a made-up one, not a real name), an avatar emoji and a grade level.
- Mission results: which questions were answered, whether the first try was right, hints used, time spent, stars and value badges.
- Nothing else. No name, photo, voice, location, contact details, free text, or device identifiers beyond what is strictly needed to serve the pages.
3. Guest mode
Without an account, everything above stays in the browser's local storage on the device. We do not receive it. Clearing the browser data removes it.
4. With a parent account
A parent creates the account with their own email and password and gives consent at sign-up. Mission results then sync to our database (Supabase, hosted in the European Union) under the parent's account so progress survives a device change. The parent can view, download and delete all of it from the Account page at any time.
5. Audio and microphone
The site plays audio. It never records audio or uses the microphone or camera.
6. No advertising, no selling, no profiling for marketing
Child screens contain no advertising, no in-app purchases and no links out of the site except to the parent area. We do not sell or share child data with anyone. We use it only to run the adaptive practice and to show parents progress.
7. Who can see the child's data
The parent, through the dashboard. Our infrastructure providers (Cloudflare for hosting, Supabase for the database) process data on our behalf under their data-processing terms. Payments are handled by Lemon Squeezy and involve only the parent's details.
8. Parental rights
A parent can review the child's data, download it as a file, correct the nickname, avatar or grade, and delete the child profile or the whole account from Account and data. Requests by email to privacy@herosprouts.com are answered within 30 days; we will verify that the request comes from the account holder.
9. Schools
Hero Sprouts Learn V1 is for families. School accounts are not offered yet.
10. Changes
If we change how child data is handled, we will post the change here and tell account holders by email before it takes effect.
